The creek Bistrica is typical water of the mountain Pohorje. It springs in the southwest of the mountain Pohorje's peak Žigartov vrh- we are aware of its two springs: the first near the peak Bajgotov vrh (1161m) and the second under the peak Povšetov vrh (1180m). Its middle part runs through deeply cut canyon Bistriški vintgar where the rapids are many and the waterfall Bistriški Šum falls13m down. The creek in is lower part runs through Zgornja Bistrica and Slovenska Bistrica and flows into the Ložnica near the village Lokanja vas. The creek is approximately 20km long.
In its upper part the creek is fast, rich in oxygen, the water is soft, slightly sour and cold-the temperatures vary from 2C to 14C: excellent living conditions for all the salmonid species but brown trout is reigning here.
